According to the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission, the number of open and operating licensed commercial casinos and Indian casinos in the state has dipped from 42 in 2013 to 33 in 2020. Mission
The Southern Ute Division of Gaming is dedicated to implementing, regulating, and supervising the conduct of gaming on the Southern Ute Indian Reservation, as authorized by the tribal Gaming Code and Southern Ute Tribe/State of Colorado Gaming Compact, accomplishing its lawful obligations in a caring and professional manner, to promote mutual respect, honesty, and rigid adherence to the tribal codes resulting in fair and impartial treatment for all. The Division of Gaming is committed to the ideals of Gaming integrity, tribal membership involvement and accountability, regulatory compliance, and public confidence.
The Division of Gaming is Divided Into Four Sections
Licensing
This section performs background investigations and issues temporary licenses to applicants for gaming or gaming-related licenses for employees of the Sky Ute Casino Resort.
Regulator
This section creates the Internal Control Minimum Procedures.
Compliance
This section performs testing on slot machine software and tracks testing of slot machines and ensures that they are in compliance with Tribal, State, and Federal guidelines.
Enforcement
Gaming Investigators are on duty 24/7 for regulatory or law enforcement needs at the casino.

About the Commission
Colorado Gaming Commission
The Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission is a five-member regulatory body appointed by the Governor. By statute, the Commission is responsible for promulgating all the rules and regulations governing limited gaming in Colorado, including the establishment of the gaming tax rate. The Commission also has final authority over all gaming licenses issued in the state. By law, the Commission is made up of members from different professional, political and geographic backgrounds. The Commission must include the following:

- A corporate manager with five years of business experience
- An attorney with experience in regulatory law
- A registered voter
- A law enforcement official
- A Certified Public Accountant with knowledge of corporate finance
In addition, no more than three Commissioners can be from the same political party and no more than one Commissioner can be from the same federal congressional district. All appointments to the Commission must be confirmed by the State Senate. Commissioners serve four-year terms, and no Commissioner can serve more than two consecutive terms.
The Department of Revenue prepares and administers the Division of Gaming budget. As part of the annual budget process, the Commission also reviews and approves the Division of Gaming budget and allocates money to other State departments, such as the Department of Public Safety, to ensure that the gaming industry is adequately regulated and its patrons protected.
The Commission is required by law to meet at least monthly.
